Karel Appel (Dutch)

Description
Karel Appel, a Dutch artist, was a co-founder of a group of artists known as “CoBrA”. (The name was derived from “Copenhagen”, “Brussels”, “Amsterdam”). CoBrA artists agreed that their work would focus on spontaneity and experiment. Because of that, they intentionally drew inspiration from children’s drawings. Thus, the childish nature of Appel’s work is not happenstance; it was very intentional, both because of the influence of childish thought and to express the spontaneity and experimentation of children’s art.
