A beautiful landscape by the Washington Abstract Expressionist painter Merton D. Simpson.  In the 1960s Simpson was deeply involved in the civil rights movement and was the owner of an eponymous gallery of African, Oceanic, and Contemporary Art.  His gallery was one of the country’s first galleries owned by an African-American and his collection of African tribal art is widely regarded as one of the finest in the world.
