Pounce Asleep

$240.00

Description

Clare Turlay Newberry wrote and illustrated seventeen children’s books—all but three of which were about cats, and nearly all taken from real life. Four of her books were honored with the Caldecott award. This print, published in 1943 by Harper & Brothers, is a fine reproduction of Newberry’s watercolor and crayon drawing  of the same year illustrating her Caldecott-winning book, April’s Kittens. It is a formal portrait of a not-formal animal (or maybe a not-formal portrait of a formal animal?); it is adorable and beautifully executed at the same time.
