Description
Mervin Jules did two dozen works for Associated American Artists. This work was selected by AAA to be the Sponsor Member Presentation Print for 1961.
AAA held National Fine Print Competitions in 1946, 1947, and 1959. The 1959 competition was so successful that AAA decided to start a “Sponsor Member” program. Sponsors paid annual membership fees, which were credited to future purchases, in exchange for which they received discounts and invitations to special events and other benefits. Sponsor Member Presentation Prints, like Asters, were not sold at the time of issue, but in some years prints were presented to Sponsor Members as part of the benefits package and some impressions were offered later through the Collector’s World catalogues of available inventory.
