Description
Stevens Jay Carter started his Amerressence Series in 1988 while he was on the faculty at Carnegie Mellon University. It began as a request from a European Chef who sought an image for a new cookbook containing 50 European recipes presented in an American tradition. Though the book was never realized, the painting quickly found a collector during an exhibit at the CMU gallery and Carter continued to explore his concept of America as a stew of vibrant imagery.
