This etching of William Shakespeare is from Leonard Baskin’sTitus Andronicus. Titus Andronicus was the first volume of The Gehenna Shakespeare, which Baskin intended to be the first of what would be the complete works of Shakespeare. But years later, Baskin wrote of it as an “idiotic idea,” because the cost to print it, with handmade paper and metal type, made the project an “expensive fiasco”. Titus Andronicus and Othello were the only two volumes completed.
