Jan Wandelaar

Jan Wandelaar was a painter, illustrator, and engraver.

He trained under the Dutch printmaker Jacob Folkema, the Dutch engraver and mapmaker Gillem van der Gouwen, and the anatomical artist Gérard de Lairesse.  He made a name in anatomical art after doing several drawings for anatomist Fredrik Ruysch.

He taught at Stadstekenacademie, Amsterdam.

Wandelaar is best known for his work illustrationg and engraving the images for Bernhard Siegfried Albinus’s Tabulae Sceleti et Musculorum Corporis Humani.
